Wave Active launches Lilian’s Room Lite to widen access to health and activity
Featuring Innerva’s power-assisted technology, the new facility brings Wave Active’s successful rehabilitation and activity model to Newhaven Wellbeing Square.
Wave Active has launched a compact version of its pioneering Lilian’s Room concept at the new Newhaven Wellbeing Square, part of its ongoing work to integrate primary care, leisure services and community wellbeing.
Featuring Innerva’s power-assisted exercise circuit, Lilian’s Room Lite is designed for people who may not feel comfortable using a conventional gym, including older adults, those living with long-term health conditions, recovering from illness or injury or looking for a gentler route back into activity.
The new facility is a smaller version of the original Lilian’s Room, which was co-designed by Innerva and opened at Downs Leisure Centre in February 2026. Bridging the gap between rehabilitation and physical activity, the successful space attracts people from neighbouring towns in East Sussex, with many reporting significant benefits, from reduced pain to improved mobility and confidence.
Duncan Kerr, CEO of Wave Active, says: “We know that traditional gyms aren’t the right environment for everyone, so we need to create different entry points that are accessible, supportive and relevant. The Lilian’s Lite model shows that you don’t need a huge space to make a difference. It’s about understanding the needs of the local community and designing the environment and services around those needs.”

Lilian’s Room Lite features seven pieces of Innerva power-assisted exercise equipment, complemented by rehabilitation and therapeutic tools including wallbars, BlazePods and interactive technology. The space provides controlled, low-impact exercise to help users develop strength, mobility and confidence in a supportive and social environment.
Liz Wright, National Sales Manager at Innerva, says: “The original Lilian’s Room is a great example of how operators can create more accessible routes into activity, while supporting health and rehabilitation. Lilian’s Room Lite adapts the model to a smaller footprint which still offers the equipment and tools needed to help people move safely, build confidence and enjoy being active with others.”
The new facility has launched at the newly opened Newhaven Wellbeing Square, which brings together primary care, community wellbeing and leisure services in the centre of the town. Led by Lewes District Council, the £21 million development includes two GP practices, a pharmacy, community facilities and the expanded Seahaven Swim & Fitness Centre operated by Wave Active.
Lilian’s Room Lite will support Wave Active’s wider health programmes, including strength and balance, falls prevention and rehabilitation. It will also be used for group exercise and other wellbeing sessions.
The original Lilian’s Room was created following a legacy gift from local resident Lilian Davis, who had benefited from Wave Active’s health outreach sessions while living in a nearby care home.
